I was in search of a funeral home in the Essex County area for the funeral services for my beloved father that passed away. My family and I visited four of them, including Levandoski-Grillo Funeral Home in Bloomfield, NJ. I can say right from the get go, Levandoski-Grillo set it self apart from the others, because it was different. As soon as you walk in, you get a sense of a welcoming homely feeling, atmosphere, due to the decor, the bright clear lighting, the colorful carpeting, the cleanliness of the place and they are reasonably priced. And also, the personal attention you receive from its owner/ Funeral Director Nick Grillo. Nick is a straight shooter, accommodating, empathetic, detailed oriented, a true professional that obviously knows his craft well. His staff is also very professional and they possess late model vehicles. To Nick, Thank you very much for a job well done with my father's funeral services from beginning to end. I entrusted my Mom’s funeral (Betty Scudese) with Levandoski- Grillo . Nicky knew exactly what my mom wanted so that made my choices easy. The songs she happened to pick happened to also be one of my very favorites “Hear I Am Lord”. There was not one hitch. Everything went according to plan to the tee. Burying a loved one can be a very daunting experience but Nicky made the experience heartfelt with dignity and compassion. If you want your loved one to have as Nicky would call it “The Send Off” handled with kindness, dignity and respect for both the deceased and family then Nick Grillo is you man that I I would highly recommend.

From the moment my Mother in Law passed Levandoski-Grillo has been top notch. This being the first time we had to plan a memorial we had lots of questions. The owner Nick was always returning our calls and giving advice. He really set our minds at ease. The service was well done. The funeral home was more than accommodating. Even when my wife wanted to move a piece of furniture, Nick was awesome. I would also like to mention Chet who was working the service with us was a total professional. He was there the whole time and made sure it went off without a hitch. Even at the end when it was over he came up to me and told me take our time. There is no rush. I have known Nick for a long time & he is an outstanding person, he has always been there for me & my family. My Mom passed away 2 years ago & when I called him he went out of his way to be there for us as soon as possible which was 1 hour, Mom looked beautiful & peaceful, he went above & beyond . Recently as Covid 19 went into effect my husband passed away unexpectedly not from Covid 19, I called Nickie late at night he answered right away , he made the most awful time of my life a lot easier. No funeral homes in south Jersey we’re doing any funeral arrangements, he offered to have a private service at his Funeral Home in Bloomfield & it was the most easy peaceful social distancing service I could have asked for . He will be there for me & my family to help us plan a memorial, he is beyond one of the best people out there & he truly cares about you & your loved ones & will go out of his way to help you.

My brother sadly passed away 2 weeks ago and we used Levandoski- Grillo Funeral Home in Bloomfield, NJ. Nick Grillo, The Director was amazing from the beginning. His expertise and honesty were comforting. He explained in detail everything and was more than willing to answer any question that we had. The premises are extremely well kept and the funeral home is adorned with beautiful navy and cream decor all throughout. I have a huge family that had to travel from all over including Puerto Rico, and the funeral home was able to comfortably accommodate everyone.

Thank you to Levandoski-Grillo Funeral Home for being so comforting and helpful in my families time of need, my father( Angel Suarez) was placed on hospice and we knew it would be a quick departure there after once he was sent home, I called the funeral late one evening and Nick called me right away from our first conversation I knew this was where I was going to have my Fathers funeral, after informing Nick that my dad was in his last days and that I did not have too much time with him, Nick took charge he called the cementaries for me, sent me to a local florist that took amazing care of me after I mentioned Nick's name , he maintained in contact with me throughout my weakest moment . My dad passed away a few days later and I called Nick immediately they came respectfully and in such a caring way to pick up my dad and transport him to the funeral home. I was so satisfied with how handsome my dad looked in his casket they groomed him beautifully and he simply looked like he was peacefully sleeping, Nick you are truly an angel, you and everyone at the funeral home were so kind and attentive and definitely made my family and I feel like family, Five stars are not enough stars to give you and rate your funeral home for all that you do.... We lost our father rather unexpectedly and had a very difficult time handling everything. Nicky was amazing and made all of the arrangements for my sister and I. He was able to comfort us and take a burden off of our shoulders that neither of us were prepared for. Levandoski - Grillo Funeral Home & Cremation Service was absolutely amazing and did a beautiful job for my father’s funeral. I lost my Dad so unexpectedly and although it was such a difficult time in my life, Nick Grillo handled every detail with such care and ease. Nick was extraordinary and provided exceptional customer service. Not to mention, the funeral home is so beautiful and has such a positive, airy, and uplifting atmosphere. Most funeral homes are so gloomy and dark but they weren’t at all. Plus, their attention to detail is impeccable! There were mints, water, tissues for our guests and soft music playing in the background. Even the prayers cards were laminated with my father’s Police Department emblem on them (as he was retired detective). Most people don’t realize it but these small gestures made the expierence that much easier on my family. They even invested in Police Department Magnets for the hearse to pay honor for his services as an officer. I was so impressed with everything they have done for my family that I will forever be thankful to Nick Grillo and Levandoski Grillo Funeral Home. Please don’t hesitate to consider them for your loved ones too. I highly recommend them!!

When my father passed away in April 2015, I was stricken with grief, but also knew memorial and funeral services had to be planned. As an only child, and my mother now an elderly widow, the responsibilities seemed insurmountable along with the grief of losing my father. I knew Nick from living in Jersey City for 15 years, but as my father had gotten sick in the last 2 years of his life, I had moved to Central NJ to assist with my parents needs. I decided to call Nick to point me in the right direction. What Nick did was completely unexpected and wonderful. I expected him to recommend a colleague or simply say he was not familiar with the area. Instead, Nick offered to take on all responsibilities for the memorial and funeral arrangements. He understood the grief and overwhelming feeling one has when a loved one passes. He took on all responsibilities and offered fantastic references for other services such as flowers and contact information for others in the area for various small things. Nick drove to the Central NJ area 3 straight days making everything as smooth as possible. The funeral home Nick used in my area handled everything flawlessly at Nick’s direction. Nick was available at every step of every arrangement, making everything as easy as possible on my family. Most people don’t realize how much effort goes into arrangements when a loved one passes, and Nick understands this. He takes as much planning for arrangements out of your hands because he knows you are grieving first and foremost. From the written obituary to the final mass and burial service, I knew everything was in the hands of a professional. To say he was accommodating would be the understatement of the year. Thank you so much Nick for taking care of endless things while my family was left to concentrate on the loss of a dear loved one and not have to worry about endless arrangements. Nick went above and beyond all my expectations, and not just because I’ve known him previously. This is Nick’s profession and he is surely a professional at it. In my family, as in many others, the send-off of a departed family member has always been a matter of great importance, to be carried out with the utmost of care, respectful of ethnic and religious traditions as well as the wishes of the deceased. The survivors who are responsible to make funeral arrangements must do so under difficult circumstances, often dealing with time and budgetary constraints, at what is often an emotional time upon the loss of a loved one. At such a time, the assistance provided by a competent, compassionate, talented, professional funeral director, is invaluable. For almost 100 years, generations of my family have enjoyed the benefit of such assistance provided by funeral directors at the same neighborhood funeral home in Downtown Jersey City. My generation is fortunate that when our turn came to assume this responsibility to honor our deceased, we found that Nicholas Grillo was from the same mold as his predecessors at our ancestors' neighborhood funeral home. Nick's warm and engaging, yet sympathetic, style is comforting at a time when comfort and support are needed most from the perspective of the survivors. At the same time, Nick's attention to detail and his extensive knowledge regarding every aspect of funeral arranging, from the selection of a casket and other merchandise, to the order of religious services, facilitates decision-making and alleviates much of the stress associated with what would otherwise be a monumental task, allowing the survivors, confident in Nick's abilities, to focus less on the details of the arrangements, and more on their own personal tributes to honor the deceased and on their interactions with other grieving family members and loved ones. Nick has also assisted me with pre-arranging and pre-paying the funeral of a family member, a process that Nick executed flawlessly. Finally, Nick's artistic abilities and creative talents, from decoration and set-up of the funeral home for visitation, to his beautiful and well-written obituaries produced from just a few details provided to him about the life of the deceased, continue to amaze me and my family. Nicholas Grillo is the one person in this world who absolutely, positively, must survive me. I would not entrust the direction of my own funeral to anyone else.

I would like to personally thank Mr. Nick Grillo for his kindness to me and my family at a time when I lost my husband. When I phoned him to tell him that my husband had passed away he came to the hospital in a matter of a few minutes to offer his condolences. When we met to make arrangements I wrote down a few items and Nick put them into a beautiful obituary. My husband was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, I know that they usually provide you with a flag, but Nick went that extra step that I knew nothing about, he had the Army at my husband's Funeral Mass and a real person playing taps on the bugle, it was so heart warming, because my husband loved his time in the service. He also he gave me my husband's obituary laminated on a piece of wood, for my family to treasure for times to come and a beautiful cherry Flag Case. He was so gracious and heartfelt to us, that words cannot express my feelings for his sense of empathy to families in their time of grief. I know when my life comes to an end I know that Nick will do the same for me and my children to comfort them. Thank you Mr. Nick Grillo.

When I lost my mom we had her cremated and much of my large family selected some keepsakes for her ashes. I often tell people about the cremation jewelry I have for my mom. One day a woman asked how sure can you be that your moms ashes are in there. I replied because Nick is not only a family friend for years but an honest caring loving man who made an extremely difficult time bearable. We have nothing but 100% trust in all he does.
